Cheery for Cherries
We have carried dehydrated cherries for years. Yet we have started carrying TART cherries! And…If you ask me it sounds as if life should be a bowl full of cherries.
Tart cherries contain:
Anthocyanins which help
reduce inflammation and inhibit tumor growth.Flavanols and Flavonols
which improve blood flow, heart and brain health, and lowers blood pressure.Phenolic Acids which are
powerful antioxidants.Phytochemicals (antioxidants) are associated with
reducing the risk of major chronic diseases.Plant Hormones that help
regulate physiological functions.Terpenes that are
essential oils from plant elements.
In findings presented by Oregon Health & Science University at the
American College of Sports Medicine Conference (ACSM) in San Francisco,
California, Scientists even went as far to say that tart cherries have
the highest anti-inflammatory properties of any food.
Eating just one and a half servings of tart cherries could significantly
boost antioxidant activity in the body, according to new University of
Michigan research reported at the 2009 Experimental Biology meeting in
New Orleans. In the study, healthy adults who ate a cup and a half of
frozen cherries had increased levels of antioxidants, specifically five
different anthocyanins – the natural antioxidants that give cherries
their red color.
If all of this information isn't enough to get you Sour on cherries then think about a better nights sleep. The melatonin in tart cherries is higher than all of the other cherries!
